Sachin Tendulkar picks up two Asian Awards
LEGENDARY batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, stole the show at the inaugural Asian Awards in London this week. The ace cricketer picked up the Outstanding Achievement in Sport award and was voted winner of the Lebara People’s Choice Award.
Upon receiving the award, Tendulkar commented: “To receive an accolade from your peers is one thing, but to receive acknowledgement from the public is the ultimate honour. Thank you to all those who voted for me.”
Stars turned out in full force to support the event, which was dedicated to honouring Asian excellence across all walks of life. Celebrities and high profile guests in attendance included Deputy PM Nick Clegg, Jermaine Jackson, Nasser Hussain OBE, Yash Chopra, AR Rahman, William Gallas, Gurinder Chadha, Christian Louboutin, James Caan, Nina Wadia, Simon Webb and Monty Panesar.
The event, which was sponsored by Lebara, also saw a charity auction raise over £100,000 for Save the Children. It will be used to support the charity’s work for the Pakistan flood victims, in particular to prevent child deaths across the continent from diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria.
