ANIL Kapoor has been riding on the success of ‘Slumdog Milionaire’ since its release but can he be the missing link between Hollywood and Bollywood? His performance in the Danny Boyle’s oscar-winning film catapulted him into the big league, landing him a role in Hollywood’s award-winning TV series, 24. The actor has only ever starred in feature films during his 30 year-long career and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was his first-ever English language film. But
last Sunday (17) he made his TV debut when the first episode of the new series of 24 premiered on Fox in the States. The UK premiere will air at 9pm this Sunday (24). It sees Anil play the role of President Omar Hussan, a middle-eastern leader who goes to America on a peace-keeping mission. According to reports, he has managed to impress critics in Hollywood with his performance so now it’s a matter of waiting for what British audiences will think.
Anil hasn’t been wasting any time in between filming. He has been making the most of his Hollywood trip, by having talks with a number of studio heards, writers and directors. “I met Ben Stiller on the sets of ‘Meet The Fockers’ in LA. He had heard about ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and wanted to meet me. He is very keen to produce Indian films,” he told the press. He wants to work with Ben Stiller to produce one English and one Hindi film under the actors banner, Red Hour Films. And if that’s not enough, he says he has met people including ”The Dark Knight’ director Christopher Nola and ‘Body Double’ producer Brian de Palma to name a few.
It all sounds promising but you can’t help but ask the quetion – Will Anil Kapoor use his connections and his new found status to finally bring together the world of Hollywood and Bollywood? What do you think? Leave your comments!
